We had an incredible standard of entries for the 2021 Big Bow Bake-off in Grove Hall Park, but it was Jason’s carrot, almond and pistachio cake that won the judges over and nabbed him the coveted Star Baker Award. Here he is looking very pleased with himself (and a bit surprised!).

We had a huge number of entries this year and the judges – our FCARA secretary Michael, cake fan Christoph and Bow East councillor Rachel Blake – had their work cut out coming up with a winner.

Milo’s Bow’s Apple cake won praise from the judges and Liv, Sally, Becky and Sofia were also runners-up and got a special “community award” for their incredible Jebb Street cake, complete with a fondant copy of the neighbourhood’s favourite cat, Rocky. Ladies you’ve outdone yourselves (again)!

Tania’s raspberry lamingtons were highly commended and Rashida’s beautifully decorated vanilla sponge cake  also nabbed a green “commended” rosette.

That left plenty of cake to go around, with a few games to work off some of the sugar afterward!

Thanks to everyone who helped out, from the teams who combed the park for litter the day before, to those who set up, cleaned up, helped with games, loaned tents and tables and donated to the residents’ association.
