Bad news folks, the Ham & Wick sewer will stay open (and the smell will be around) for some time longer while Thames Water completes other work further along the system, Gwynn Willams, community relations manager for Crossrail contractors Dragados-Sisk told the FCARA meeting on 27 November.
The site at the bottom of Wrexham Rd will remain as it is until other work by Thames Water is complete, then it will take four months’ work to cap the sewer and turn the site back into a carpark.
However, in response to residents’ complaints about the bright lights and noise coming from the site across the A12, Gwynn said the contractors only work there until 8pm and so noise in recent weeks is probably from work on the gantries to the A12 at night (which isn’t anything to do with Crossrail) or on the DLR.
But the site contractor will look in to the issue with the lights and make sure they are all directed into the site and not across into our houses.
Gwynn said residents who see any sign of movement in their homes which they suspect is the result of the tunnelling, or who have any other concerns about the works, should contract the Crossrail helpline on 0345-602-3813
