On 5 May 2016 people from across London have the chance to vote for the Mayor of London and the 25 Members of the London Assembly. For information about who’s standing in the elections, see the London Elects website.
The people you vote for in these elections are responsible for many aspects of your everyday life – from the underground, local bus services and policing, to green spaces, air quality and Trafalgar Square.
To have your say on 5 May you need to make sure that you are registered to vote by 18 April 2016.
You are eligible to vote if you:
- are registered to vote by the deadline
- live in London
- will be at least 18 years old on election day
- are a British citizen, a European Union citizen or a Commonwealth citizen who has, or does not require, leave to remain in the UK
You can register to vote online in just a few minutes using a simple form. You’ll need to provide your National Insurance number, your date of birth and your address.
If you prefer, you can register by post. Just print out and fill in the registration forms, find the contact details of your council’s electoral registration office, and return the forms to them. Or, instead of printing the forms out, you can ask your local electoral registration office to post the forms to you.
You don’t need to register separately to vote in Mayor of London or London Assembly elections: if you’ve already added you name to the electoral register and meet the criteria above, you’ll automatically receive your polling card or postal vote pack in the post.
