The Boishakhi Mela is the largest celebration of the Bangla New Year outside South Asia. 2016 marks the return of the Boishakhi Mela to Weavers Fields, highlights of which will include an amazing main stage programme, spectacular parade, Mela Family Zone, Arts Hub and a tantalising array of food, crafts and goods.
The event will start at noon and will include a grand procession including school and community groups, which will make its way to Weaver’s Fields from Brick Lane.
From Baul to Bhatiali and from Doom Dhamaka to Dhallywood, the 2016 programme will provide a fabulous showcase of the best of traditional and contemporary culture from the streets and stages of Britain and Bangladesh. There will be an exciting variety of performers from the UK and abroad with some sizzling home grown talent.
